Doha: The Union Government has decided to repatriate Indians stranded in Doha back to their homeland on two special flights.
According to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Doha, one flight will be operated from Doha to Kochi on May 7 and the other will be from Doha to Thiruvananthapuram on May 10.
“The passenger lists for both these flights will be finalised by the Embassy on the basis of registrations made in the Embassy website for this purpose,” the statement said.
It added that priority will be given to pregnant women, urgent medical cases, workers in distress, senior citizens as well as to other people who are stranded in difficult situations.
Those who have been short-listed will be contacted by the Embassy directly through either email or phone.
Details about the “cost of the tickets and other conditions for travel, including quarantine requirements after reaching India, apart from health requirements to board the flight, will be conveyed in due course and will have to be accepted by each passenger”.
As mentioned in the statement, the tickets will be issued by the airline only to those who are on the passenger lists prepared by the Embassy.
Details about more flights to other destinations in India will be announced by the Embassy “as and when they become available” and the same process of shortlisting passengers will be applied to these flights as well.
In the statement, the Embassy in Doah revealed that they received nearly 40,000 registrations for repatriation and said that it “will take time for all people to be accommodated”.
