Dubai: The Emirates NBD bank released a parody of Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” to raise awareness about online scams and frauds. The video, that was made in collaboration with the Dubai Police, has now gone viral.
The video, posted on the bank’s and the police department’s respective Instagram pages, is a rap conversation between a bank customer and a bank official. The customer, as seen in the music video, has called to talk to the official about a message he received regarding his bank account after which he lost quite a bit of money, to the official replies, “It wasn’t me.”

Made in English, the video also has Arabic subtitles. Both the bank and the police, through their posts, have urged the people to be careful and give the “do’s and don’ts of keeping your identity and account secure at all times”.
They also urged the people to inform www.ecrime.ae if they have been defrauded in an online scam in the UAE.
The video has been met with a positive response with many calling it “entertaining and creative”.
World over, the banking industry has been facing an increasing number of cyber-attacks in recent years. The average cost of cyber-crime in the banking sector globally has increased from last year by about 10 percent to $18 million.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 30, Emirates NBD stated that, as part of its ongoing initiative to remind its customers that the bank would never ask for personal details, has launched a UAE-wide #secureyouraccount campaign to raise awareness on cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity is a global threat that needs to be jointly tackled by banks, law enforcement agencies, the media and customers, said Abdulla Qassem, Group Chief Operating Officer at Emirates NBD.
