Dubai: In the wake of the global coronavirus outbreak, several major concerts and other events were cancelled in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The development comes in the midst of reports of the virus spreading in the Gulf with over 1,641 cases being reported from the region.
However, most of these cases are in Iran where 66 people have died from the disease.
In view of the outbreak, the much-awaited Ultra festival in Abu Dhabi and a K-pop concert in Dubai stand cancelled, according to a Reuters report.
The Ultra festival was to be held on March 5 and 6 with popular musicians such as DJ Afrojack and Major Lazer set to perform at the 25,000-capacity Du Arena.
Currently, the UAE has witnessed 21 cases of coronavirus. The country often plays host to various business conferences, concerts, and sporting events which draws tourists from all over the world. It is widely regarded as a tourism and entertainment hub of the Middle East.
Apart from the two events, a yoga festival in Abu Dhabi and a carnival in Dubai celebrating the Hindu festival ‘Holi’ have also been cancelled until further notice.
