Dubai: Konkan Bells – a community group of Belthangady varado parishes residing in UAE came forward to organise a successful blood donation drive in response to a humble request by Latifa Hospital, Dubai asking some volunteers to support them with more blood donations to overcome the current shortage of blood in the Blood Donation Centre.
With this call in mind, the Team led by Balakrishna Salian, roped in many community organisations of Karnataka for the noble cause. Under the initiative of President – Roshan Pinto, as many as 85 members of the Konkanbells, a regular donor community group participated in this campaign and donated blood on 3rd of March 2017 at Latifa Hospital and made this drive successful. People came from as far away as from Abu Dhabi and Ajman. There were also some first time eager donors – teenagers who volunteered, 18 years being the minimum age required to donate.
Balakrishna Salian, coordinator of blood donation campaign for Mangalorean community in UAE, Premjith, chief of TPTO group visited and supported the donors.
The blood donation campaign by Konkan Bells, is expected to help more than 750 Children/adults who are suffering from rare diseases which require approximate75 units of Blood per day.
The Blood Donors also be benefited as blood donation will decrease the possibility of having heart diseases and strokes, and activates the bone marrow to produce new blood cells. President Roshan Pinto thanked everyone for their initiation to make campaign successful and he expressed his gratitude to Barakat LLC for providing fresh juice and fruits for donors.
