Abu Dhabi: The annual Koosamma Shambu Shetty Memorial (KSSM) throwball tournament was held in Abu Dhabi on Friday,18th January 2019 on Abu Dhabi Indian School grounds. This tournament is held every year in memory of the Late Koosamma Shambu Shetty.
This year in the men’s category, Coastal Friends defeated the KCO Abu Dhabi team and took home the trophy. In the women’s category, Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi defeated the Konkans Dubai to emerge victorious.
During the finals, the matches were decided on the best of 3 basis, each match bearing 15 points.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by the dignitaries present.Balloons were released as part of the inauguration ceremony. Then, as always, the matches began after an oath taking ceremony.
On the occasion, Sudhir Kumar Shetty was felicitated on his retirement. Sarvotham Shetty gave the gathering a brief about Sudhir’s journey into the UAE and the various positions held by him at NMC/UAE Exchange.
After he was felicitated, Sudhir thanked the organisers and everyone gathered for the honour.
As B R Shetty and his family could not make it to the event as they were away on business, his daughter-in-law Shivani Binay Shetty addressed the gathering on their behalf.
At the close of the event, the national anthems of UAE and India were sung.
Sarvotham Shetty introduced and welcomed the gathering.
The dignitaries present were Sudhir Kumar Shetty, Jayaram Rai, Ronald Pinto, Ravi Rai, Ratnakar Shetty, Shivani Binay Shetty, Pradeep Rai, Neeraj Bhargava, Ravindranath Tata and Shweta Rathnakar Shetty.
