Abu Dhabi to set up facility to recycle used cooking oil by year end

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi is looking to open a new facility to help in the recycling of used cooking oil by the end of this year, said a top official from Tadweer (The Centre of Waste Management, Abu Dhabi) on January 9. This facility is going to be the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi.

It is also reported that the centre is going to introduce new technologies in order to turn used cooking oil into biofuel.

Abu Dhabi, currently has a facility that treats used vehicle engine oil. The new facility to treat used cooking oil will prevent oil from homes, restaurants and other places from getting dumped at landfills or getting drained into the kitchen sinks, which eventually clog up the drainage systems. The facility will save the government a lot of money which they would otherwise have spent on cleaning the waste cooking oil.

The official also said that it is important to spread awareness about recycling as lately there have been no efforts to protect the environment from the used oil and grease that is being drained into the kitchen sinks.
