Abu Dhabi Konkani Prayer Group celebrates 15th Anniversary with grandeur

The Konkani Prayer Group (KPG) of St. Joseph’s Cathedral celebrated their 15th anniversary with a grand celebration on October 2, 2015 at the St. Joseph’s Parish Centre under the theme “God is with us”. Konkani Charismatic Prayer Group is actively involved in almost all the church activities since its inception in 2000. They are providing yeoman service to the community at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in various ministries such as lay ministers, ushers, volunteers, community leaders, Choir etc and they are involved in every community service. Their service during main festivals and services such as Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday are commendable and are always applauded.
 The Friday’s grand celebration started with the rosary and followed with thanksgiving mass celebrated by the spiritual director of the prayer group Rev. Fr. Rodson Goes OFM, Cap, along with more than 400 faithful attending the mass.  During his sermon, Fr. Rodson stressed the importance of family life with an example of Wedding Cake and Mumma’s advice- “any problem in life, lets fix it”. The more we try and mend all small problems in our family life, will make the bond of marriage stronger and also this at large helps us to build a stronger society.

Snacks were served at 11 am. The cultural program started with the theme song by the KPG Music ministry members Rohan Correa, Jessy Correa, Flavia Crasta, Wilson Pinto, Deral Menezes, Prestina Carvalho and Sharmila DSouza. A brief stage programme was held and the anniversary cake was cut by the guests, Fr. Rodson Goes, Fr. Johnson K. Joseph, Parish Priest, St. Joseph’s Cathedral; Fr. Gandolf Wild from the Bishop’s House; Sr. Carmine, Principal, St. Joseph’s School, Abu Dhabi along with KPG core team members. Co-ordinator of KPG, Flavia Crasta welcomed the guests and presented the brief report of KPG’s activities, from a humble beginning in 2000 with a small group of 17 members to a growth of today’s 350 members big family. She thanked all who have given their best in keeping the spirit alive within the community members and requested them to continue supporting the good work. Fr. Johnson, Parish Priest of St Joseph’s, during his message, wished KPG members on the occasion and expressed happiness for all the services the prayer group is offering to the Church. He stressed the importance of the theme ‘God is with us’ which implies to every walk of our life, in our prayer meetings and also our own daily lives.

This was followed by a Devotional dance by Monisha, Monal, Deona and a kids action song by Ethan, Cleon, Daniel, Nicole, Sonal, Annabelle, Sharlete,  Nishel and Shanal. The little kids were amazing and were applauded by the audience for their wonderful performance. A group dance by youth group consisting Sarah, Mural, Kavitha, Tanya, Rosanne, Ashley and a Bollywood dance performance by kids Keona and Lishon was well choreographed and entertained the crowd. Fusion songs by teens Ryan, Ethan, Tanya, Rosanne and Johanne followed.

The icing on the cake was the three comedy skits enacted by trio Cony (Conrad), Dany (Deral), Canny (Canute) along with veteran Lancy DSouza which came as a laughter medicine and had the audience enjoying thoroughly with their rib tickling comedy. Core team member Anil Carvalo thanked all who helped in the success of the celebration. The event was well compered by Deral Menezes and Jeol Crasta from Broadway Events had arranged the perfect sound and lighting. A sumptuous lunch was arranged by the organizers to all attendees. All KPG members effort in putting up a event of such magnitude was well appreciated by all who were present.
