Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha on its 38th anniversary celebrated the 63rd Karnataka Rajyotsava at the Indian Social Centre, Abu Dhabi on Friday, November 2. The event was witnessed by Kannadigas who came in large numbers.
President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Sarvotham Shetty welcomed the Grand Patron of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Padmashree Dr. B R Shetty, Dr. Chandrakumari B R Shetty, along with Indian Ambassador to UAE, H E Navdeep Suri. The daylong programme was inaugurated by Dr. B R Shetty, President of India Social Centre Ramesh Panicker, Ronald Pinto of Hyssna International and other guests with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
Indian Ambassador for UAE, H E Navdeep Suri conferred Dr. B R Shetty with the honorary title of “Karnataka Ratna” on behalf of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and all Kannadigas of UAE. The felicitation comprised a shawl, flower bouquet, Mysore Peta and memento. Speaking on the occasion H E Suri said, “I am an ambassador appointed by the government but Mr. Shetty is an ambassador appointed and honoured by the people. His life is an inspiration. The land of Karnataka has created a lot of talents and visionaries like B R Shetty. Hence, there is some speciality in the soil of Karnataka where people are born with such talent and motivation as B R Shetty and are spread across the world.”
Dr. B R Shetty expressed his happiness for being chosen for the “Karnataka Ratna” honour. He said, “I came to UAE to fulfill my personal commitments, but the land of UAE gave me everything. We should not forget the past and should maintain the ethics that comes as a legacy from the family.” He wished all Kannadigas a blessed and prosperous Karnataka Rajyotsava.
Well known humorist Prof. Krishnegowda who came as a special invitee from Mysore, entertained the audience and won their hearts. His knowledge of Kannada surprised the people.
Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha ladies throw ball team was honoured on the stage.
This was followed by felicitation of children who have excelled in their education with Hamdan Awards. They were all invited on stage and felicitated by President of UAE Exchange Sudhir Kumar Shetty.
Many local artistes presented folk dance, patriotic songs and other dance performances which received grand applause from gathering.
Overall, under the leadership of President Sarvotham Shetty and the able committee members, a memorable programme was presented by the Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha.
