42nd edition of India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament held

Dubai: The 42nd edition of the India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament was held on Friday, May 3. In the exciting men’s singles finals, Imam Adi Kusuma (Indonesian, based in Dubai ) was the winner and Fahmi Mubarok (Indonesian, based in Dubai) was a runner-up.

This tournament, which was inaugurated on April 2, has been the largest in its 42-year-old history. It first started in 1978.
There were 674 entries in 36 different categories from 12 different countries. On the last day of the tournament, there were 3 final matches taken place.

Over 500 spectators witnessed the finals of the 42nd Edition of India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament 2019.

Iman Adi Kusuma defeated Fahmi Mubarak in a tough fight of three sets 21-9, 13-21, 21-18. Vasantha Kumar Rajendran was the first runner-up and Gian Desianto Murdiyanto was the second runner-up in men’s doubles.

In the second match, the mixed doubles were held between Iman Adi Kusuma and Tanisha Crasto and Fahmi Mubarok and Vivian Silva.

Iman Adi Kusuma and Tanisha Crasto defeated Fahmi Mubarok and Vivian Silva by straight two sets of 21-15 and 21-16 and won the mixed double title. Korenelius Mujiono and Teena Mary were the first runners-up and Achut E P Jayadevan and Amritha Kuttikrishnan were the second runners-up in the mixed doubles.

The thirst and final match of the 42nd UAE Open Badminton-2019 was the men’s doubles played between Iman Adi Kusuma and Marselinus Nanda dewagraha vs Choirunnizar Chan and Korenelius Mujiono.

Iman Adi Kusuma and Marselinus Nanda dewagraha defeated Choirunnizar Chan and Korenelius Mujiono by straight two sets of 21-19 and 21-18 and won the men’s doubles title. Fahmi Mubarak and Muhammad Saripudin were the first runners-up and Achut E P Jayadevan and Jefry Rehmat Saputra were the second runners-up in the men’s doubles.

As a part of CSR activities friendly matches were played by the special needs children from SNF Development Center. Blue collar workers from Shapoorji Pallonji Mideast LLC played in the tournament.

An awards ceremony was held during the closing event where all the winners were presented prizes and trophies during the award ceremony. Cash prizes worth over AED 60,000/- were given away during the tournament making it the richest tournament in the region. The men’s singles, ladies singles and men’s doubles winners got Air India tickets.

Besides cash prizes, trophies and other goodies were given out to winners/runners up which included Carrera sunglasses, vouchers from Super Vision and discount vouchers from Li-Ning.

Sunil Singh (Board of Trustee and Head of the UAE Open Badminton Tournament Organising Committee) spoke on the occasion.

The Badminton Tournament Committee comprised of Sunil Singh, Wales, Thomas, Suresh Menon and Girish Chand.

Friends Provident International was the main sponsor of the tournament and Li-Ning were the equipment partners. The media partners were 1024 SUNO FM. Other Co-Sponsors were Air India, Carrera Sunglasses, Polaroid Sunglasses, Aarushi Designs, Super Vision Opticals, Britannia and Wagh Bakri.

During the closing ceremony H. E. Ridwan Hassan, Consul General of Indonesia, Dubai, Vasu Shroff (Chairman India Club), Sunil Singh (Board of Trustee and Head of the UAE Open Badminton Tournament Organising Committee), Shri Neeraj Agarwal, the head of Chancery & Counsul (Press, Information, Culture, Protocol & RTI) AT the Indian Consulate in Dubai, Munmun Lamba (Marketing Manager, Friends Provident International), Vivek Kelshiker (Sports Secretary), Mohit Sain (Regional Director, Air India Gulf, ME & Africa) and Qomarruzaman, the Consul for Consular Affairs at Indonesia Consulate Dubai were present.

Final Results in other categories of the tournament are

In the match of Girls Singles Under 9 ALEXIA ELSA ALEXANDER defeated VAIDHAHI KALIDASAN by 22-20, 21- 08 and won the title.

In the match of Boys Singles Under 9 NITHIN PRAKASH RAMASAMY defeated YODH SOPPIN by 21-17, 21-04 and won the title.

Girls Singles Under 11 PRAPTHI PRASANNA KUMAR defeated ALEXIA ELSA ALEXANDER by SCORE: 21-12, 21-11.

Boys Singles Under 11 RIYAN MALHAN defeated ADAM JESLIN by 21-15, 21-05 and won the title.

Boys Doubles Under 11 RIYAN MALHAN and NOEL CHERIAN JACOB defeated RISHITH RAJESH and NITHIN PRAKASH RAMASAMY by 21-13, 21-13.

Girls Singles Under 13 ANVITHA VIJAY defeated RISHITHA RAJITH in 3 sets of 21-11, 15-21, 21-15 and won the title.

Boys Singles Under 13 BHARATH LATHEESH defeated JOEL JAMES by 25-23 21-17.

Boys Doubles Under 13 JOEL JAMES and NISARG THUNGA defeated ATCHUTHAN DAMODHARAN and RISHABH KALIDASAN by 21-11, 25-23 and became a winner in BD U13

Girls Doubles Under 13 SAKSHI PRAKASH KURBKHELGI and ANVITHA VIJAY defeated DANICA ALIZABETH FERRAO and RISHITHA RAJITH by 21-16, 21-14 and won the title.

Girls Singles Under 15 TANIKA SEQUEIRA defeated RINITHA RAJITH by 21-11, 21-14.

Boys Singles Under 15 BHARATH LATHEESH defeated STEFAN BINU by 21-17, 21-15

Boys Doubles Under 15 HIRAAN RASI and DEV VISHNU defeated DEV IYYAPPAN and DHIREN IYYAPPAN by 21-11, 23-21

Girls Singles Under 17 RINITHA RAJITH defeated THANSEEHA BIJU by 23-11, 21-07.

Boys Singles Under 17 SHOURYA JOSHI defeated NABHAN ABDUL NAJEEB by 21-16, 21-17

Boys Doubles Under 17 SHOURYA JOSHI and ABHISHEK DINESH defeated BHARATH LATHEESH and NABHAN ABDUL NAJEEB by 18-21, 21-18, 21-11.

Girls Doubles Under 17 GANGA PRADEEP and GAURI PRADEEP defeated SANIKA GURAV and TANIKA SEQUEIRA by 21-18, 21-14

Girls Singles Under 19 TANIKA SEQUEIRA defeated THANSEEHA BIJU by 21-11, 21-18.
