Sharjah: About 6,959 violations were reported from the industrial areas.

The Sharjah Police have recorded more than 21,000 violations of Covid safety rules at labour accommodations in over four months, it was announced on Saturday. The police’s Labour Accommodation Inspection Committee spotted the violations during inspection campaigns at labour housing areas in different parts of the emirate.

Brigadier Dr Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director-General of Central Operations, Sharjah Police, and Chairman of the Executive Committee for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management in the emirate, noted that the inspection teams recorded the violations between May 20 and October 1.

He added that about 6,959 violations were reported from the industrial areas.

Brig.-Gen. Naour said the field teams distributed 170,089 awareness leaflets in multiple languages to raise the community’s awareness about how the virus spreads.

He sought the community’s help in “promptly” reporting any violations of the measures.

Earlier this month, the police said they had fined 5,432 individuals in a month for violating the safety rules across the emirate. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Major-General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said the police had intensified patrolling because of the increase in daily Covid-19 cases.
