Mysuru: Winter festival in Mysuru received overwhelming response thisn year. Events including bird watching, puppet show and Hasiru Santhe were added this year by the district administration and tourism department, which attracted more crowd then what expected.

“It was overwhelming response for this year winter festival, and we are open for ideas to have further more attractive events for next winter festival,” said Deputy Commissioner, Abhiram Sankar.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Abhiram Sankar “All the events evoked good response and crossed our expectations but still there are scopes for improvements. For example Chitra Santhe though it was good for the first time still needs to increase its vibrance. We need to include more varieties and need to attract like Chitra Santhe held in Bengaluru organised by Chitrakala Parishat. There is scope for a lot of improvement. For Bird watching which was also conducted for the first time, though we had planned the event for hundred people, there were hundred more who were waiting. There are feedbacks from the bird watching enthusiasts that we need to cover more areas. These feedbacks will be taken into consideration for next winter festival. Screening of movies was also a success, hence instead of three days we are planning to have for one week from next year and give screening details well in advance so that people can plan accordingly. Hasiru Santhe where organic farmers had opportunity to sell their produce directly to its customers, District minister GT Devegowda who was impressed with the event even instructed us to conduct it every week. Apart from Paramount event, which was cancelled due to technical snag, the rest of the events attracted more crowd”.

“For next winter festival we are open to new ideas and if we get new ideas we are willing to take. Events should not become template, we have to think and break template so something new and refreshing should be brought in. We are trying to find out what can be done. Our imagination is limited so we have to keep on interacting with people arranging events and attend such events. Hence we are open with ideas and those with good ideas can come down to my office or meet Deputy Director of tourism” added Abhiram Sankar.

Narayanagowda, President of Hotel Owners Association, Mysuru, said “When compared to last year, there was not only more number of events but also a very good response from the public to all the events. The only problem we had was the authorities failed to start awareness like preparation well in advance. Atleast from next year I request the authorities to start preparation one month prior to the festival. The awareness about the event should start early so that people have more time to plan and visit Mysuru”.

As part of winter festival, new year was welcomed by bursting of crackers at Mysuru palace.
