Mysuru: The children belonging to Government Higher Primary School, Kuvempunagar had a memorable Children’s Day celebration with the city based Kalisu Foundation hosting a meet with scion of the Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who is the NGO’s ambassador. The students interacted with the scion at the Mysuru Palace premises. They posed few questions which really tested Yaduveer’s history.
Nearly 24 students posed about 20 questions which included how many temples are there inside the palace, like his predecessor why the present prince is not a part of the procession, why prince is not sitting atop the elephant and Goddess Chamundeshwari has replaced him, before palace existed how was Mysuru, how many rooms are there in palace, after taking up new responsibility how is the feeling, for lighting palace what’s the monthly electricity bill and how he celebrated Children’s Day during his school days and so on. Before the start of the interaction, Yaduveer had told the students that they need not hesitate or feel shy. He called upon them to be free and ask any question with an assurance to provide them the best possible answers to all questions. For each and every question posed by the students, Yaduveer with all the patience, gave answers.
“I wanted to do something for the children and hence on Children’s Day planned small tour and interaction with them. It was fun to answer and enjoy with children. Their curiosity took me back to my childhood days. Children came out with honest and innocent questions and it really felt nice to answer. Apart from this, it’s really good to know that the students were curious about the history of temples which are inside the palace and are even older than the palace itself”, added Yaduveer who after interaction with students for nearly an hour, went around the palace and even took photos along with them. The tourist who had come in large numbers too didn’t miss an opportunity were found taking photos and much said selfies.
B Beeresh, an eighth standard student said, “Really we felt motivated and inspired after having discussion with Yaduveer sir. Before starting the interaction, he advised us to be calm and cool and ask any sort of question. For all the questions, which we posed we got answers. Not only me but also my friends were spellbound by his simplicity.”
The entry to the inside premises of Mysuru Palace is free only for children below 10 years of age while for those studying from fifth standard to post graduation, the entry fee is just Rs 10 while for the general public it is Rs 50.
