What is the link between Kerala deluge and cow slaughter, asks Siddu

Mysuru: After the controversial BJP lawmaker Basangouda Patil Yatnal blamed the public slaughter of cows in Kerala last year for the recent deluge that ravaged the state, former chief minister Siddaramaiah has come out in open criticism of the MLA’s insensitive remark.

“What is the connection between cattle slaughter and the Kerala floods?”, Siddu asked. “Do we need to react to such remarks made by BJP leaders?”, he added.

He was addressing a group of reporters outside the Suttur Math at the foot of the Chamundi Hills. Siddu was reportedly at the math to seek blessings from Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji.

Yatnal’s implication that the flood was a direct result of the “beef eating ways” of the Keralites deeply offended the former CM, who questioned why there was no flooding in Kerala before, considering that the people of the state have been eating beef since long before anyone could remember.

According to Yatnal, the slaughtering, eating of cows is against the sentiments of the Hindu community. “One should not hurt the feelings of other religions. Now you see what happened to Kerala. They openly slaughtered cows and you see in less than one year they’ve come to this stage,” he had said adding that anyone hurting the feelings of Hindus was destined to be punished in a similar way.
