Mysuru: On Thursday, April 18, 14 constituencies in Karnataka went to polls in the second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Among the electorate, several were youngsters exercising their precious right to vote for the very first time. Many of these new voters said that their cast their vote after a lot of thought and hoped that those who get elected, value their votes by taking up developmental works instead of indulging in corrupt practices.

First-time voter, M Manasvin (21) had been curious about the voting system for the past few days, but after casting his vote, he was overwhelmed.

A final year Computer Science student from the National Institute of Engineering, Manasvin said, “I was very curious about how the system and process would be. I am very impressed with the systems being followed during the voting. I have voted for the candidate who will work for a better India.”

19-year-old C R Ashwini, a first year BSc student from Maharani’s Science College, Mysuru said, “As citizens, it is our responsibility to vote. After becoming eligible to vote, it is our duty to vote for the right candidate so that the future of Mysuru and the country will be good.”

Ashwini aspires to become an IAS officer in the future. She voted for the first time today in the Periyapatna taluk of the Mysuru district. “The demo conducted at our college really helped us a lot in learning how the voting system functions. Such demonstrations should be conducted in all colleges, especially during the elections,” she said.

Another first-time voter, Jayashree from Bannur said, “We voted for a candidate after a lot of thought. Those who win the election must think along the same lines and do justice to the people. They must not misuse the precious votes by indulging in corruption. They should first solve the unemployment issues which is rampant across the country.”
