University of Mysore to host all India inter university Kho Kho competition

Mysuru: After nearly 25 years, University of Mysore will be conducting all India inter university men’s Kho Kho tournament and South-zone inter university women’s Kho_kho competition this year.

Over 16 qualified teams will be taking part in the all India inter university competition while for south zone 70 university teams are expected to take part. All India inter university kho kho for men will probably be held in the month of January while South Zone inter university tournament for women in October. Last year, University of Mysore women’s team had won the third place in the all India inter university competition while men’s team lost in the quarterfinals.

B D Kantharaja, Physical Instructor, University of Mysore who for the past nearly 22 years is taking UoM Kho Kho men and women teams for inter university competitions said, “This will be an opportunity for host team to make use of home advantage and come out with much better performance. Apart from this, it will also serve as a platform for promising Kho-Kho players to watch their talented counterparts performing. It will also enable them to pick up some of the skills from outstanding players during the competition.” As part of the competition, the department will be coming out with four courts for match purpose and one for practice.

T Praveen Kumar, who led UoM Kho-Kho team last year said, “Really, it is a good platform for us to showcase our talent in front of our home ground. We have a good team. It may be in Mysuru or any other place we are very positive that UoM will definitely come up with a good performance. Hope the government in days to come provides us job opportunities.” For the past five consecutive years, Praveen has represented UoM Kho Kho team.

In 2015-16, as part of centenary celebrations, UoM had conducted all India inter university wrestling for men and women and south zone inter university hockey competition for women.
