Two pourakarmikas on duty assaulted

Mysuru: A section of the civic workers protested in Nazarbad urging the police to arrest the accused who beat pourakarmikas who were on duty.

On Tuesday late evening, when pourakarmikas in their auto, were collecting waste, two youths on a bike met with an accident in front of St. Philomenas church. After heated arguments, two youths who were on their two wheeler along with their friends beat both the pourakarmikas who were on duty. Both the injured pourakarmikas were immediately rushed to K R Hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday morning, pourakarmikas who were upset with the incident staged a protest in front of Nazarbad Police Station demanding immediate arrest of the accused who were involved in beating up government servants while on duty. The injured pourakarmikas have been identified as Deva and Thirumallesh who work in Ward No 41. Health Officer Nagaraj and Assistant Commissioner Mahesh managed to convince the protesting pourakarmikas and also filed FIR at Nazarbad Police Station. After getting assurance from corporation officials, pourakarmikas, in the interest of city, especially with the ongoing Swachchta Sarvekshan, withdrew their protest.

One week paid leave for the injured pourakarmikas

The corporation officials have given one week paid holiday to the injured pourakarmikas. Speaking to Newskarnataka, Mara said, “Such incidents should not happen. Both the injured pourakarmikas are regular workers and its really unfortunate. Hope the police will take stringent action against those involved in beating our staff. We have given a week paid leave to both the injured.”

M L Shekar, Police Inspector, Nazarbad Police Station said, “The injured pourakarmikas allege that when they had parked their vehicle to collect garbage at Five Light Circle, two youths who were on a bike hit the stationery auto and fell. Later, they assaulted both the pourakarmikas and escaped. We have registered a case and even collected the footage and are on the lookout for the accused”.
