Token system introduced in Mysuru police stations to combat delays

Mysuru: The Mysuru police have taken the initiative to introduce a token system to deal with aggrieved citizens in order to solve the age old problem of delay in attending to complaints.

The move comes as a means to improve relations between cops and the citizens and to serve as an acknowledgement of a visit to the station to file a complaint.

Under the current system there is no scope for citizens to record their visits to a police station in Mysuru and the police themselves have to record the visits in a diary. The new system boasts of the provision to record all details pertaining to a complaint online including the name of the police station visited and the time. The complainant’s picture is taken and printed onto the token which is then handed over to them.

Allegations of delays in complaints being attended to and the time of the visits being altered in the diary, were rampant in the old system. This also hindered the ability to cross check the filing of the complaints and gave way to less accountability.

Mysuru Police Commissioner A Subramanyeshwar Rao has said that presently there existed no such system in the state of Karnataka and that it was introduced to improve policing in the city. The new system was introduced on January 15, in four police stations and another four will be added in the following month.

Each token dispenser comes with a helpdesk which will be manned by a policeman, where each complainant will have to leave certain details. Once they are given a token, they will have to wait in the lounge for their turn.

Cops can be pulled up for delays, now that tracking of the complaints is made easier as they are recorded online.

The Mysuru police have taken other public-friendly steps including making the stations’ atmosphere more congenial and even granting of leaves to those of ranks below that of a sub-inspector for their children’s birthdays and for wedding anniversaries.
