This toilet complex turns into den for ‘dirty’ activities

Mysuru: The toilet complex constructed to realise the dream of “Clean India” has turned into a den for illegal activities.

Five years ago, the administration had constructed the toilet complex at Okkalageri in the second ward of Najanagudu spending around Rs 10 Lakhs, claimed locals. However, they allege that the building was not opened for the public. The toilet meant for public use has turned into a shelter for hooligans, alcoholics and troublemakers to run their illegal activities, the locals alleged.

As none of the public enters the building, the miscreants use it for all sorts of illegal activities including gambling, smoking ganja and drinking liquor. Cigarette buds, playing cards, empty liquor bottles are strewn on the floor, as a stark reminder of the activities that take place here.

In the absence of any alternative arrangements, people continue to defecate in the vicinity of the complex. The stench alone is enough to turn anyone away from the place. There is no clear all weather pathway too. Come rains and the whole place turns to slush, the local residents added.

Besides this, the area is unsafe for the public, especially children. Situated next to the building is an underground sump constructed to store water devoid of any lid. Locals said they were afraid that kids could drown in this open sump.

We hope the administration wakes up from its slumber and cleans up the mess.
