Mysuru: With this being the final leg of the elections campaigns, many candidates are going all out to garner as much support as possible. The JD(S) candidate from the NR constituency, Abdul Azeez (Abdullah) is no different. Like his fellow contenders, he has been going about and visiting the people in the constituency.

Abdullah’s vision for his constituency is for it to become a model for the rest of the state. “Over the last nearly 17 years, there has been no major developmental work taken up in the constituency. The people had decided it was time for a change yet, the incumbent MLA managed to win in the previous elections. That will not happen again,” said the second time contender Abdullah. He had contested in the elections back in 1994, although unsuccessfully.

Based on the response he has been getting from the people, he is confident of winning in the upcoming elections.

In an interview with News Karnataka, Abdullah said that his campaign has been going well and the response from the people has been good. “Our supporters are increasing everyday,” he said adding that many workers from the Congress and the BJP parties have joined him in support. “Apart from me winning here, the people also want to see HD Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister once again,” he said.

About the problems in the constituency Abdullah said that many people have complained that the incumbent MLA has not visited any ward but has been seen only a few days before the election, asking for votes. “The constituency lacks proper drinking water, road facility and hospitals. The people are eagerly waiting for a change,” he said.

When asked why people should vote for him, Abdullah said that he has won the people’s affection. He said he has been working on his relationship with the people since 1994. “That is why many people have volunteered to campaign for me this election season. I don’t want to brag about what I have done for the people. The only thing I will say is that whenever people have approached me for problems like health, education, marriage and for other issues in the constituency, I have always helped them and stood by them during difficult times,” he added.

If he wins the elections, Abdullah said that although there are many issues in need of addressing, his top priority would be to provide drinking water to the people, construction of a hospital, laying of proper roads an provision of Ashraya houses to those who paid Rs 10,000 and still did not get houses. My overall aim is to make this a model constituency in the state.
