Teresian College launches Teresian Sports Academy for students

Mysuru: For the overall development of its students and to promote sports in the eastern part of Mysuru, Teresian College has formed the Teresian Sports Academy, wherein they will provide training in ten different sports including cricket, kabaddi, volleyball, chess, yoga, shuttle, basketball, throwball and Karate.

It can be noted that most of the sports hostel girls, who are undergoing training in various sports including hockey, basketball, volleyball and athletics, are studying in this college. Many of those who studied here went on to, not only represent the state, but also the country.

To start with, the college will be conducting a summer camp from April 5 to May 20. The camp will be held daily between 6.30 AM and 8 AM and from 4 PM to 6 PM.

In the past 30 years, several alumni of the Teresian College have made their alma mater proud through extraordinary achievements in the field of sports, at the state and national levels. Now, in a bid to ensure that the illustrious tradition extends to indoor sports as well, the college management has spent Rs 5 crore to build a well-equipped indoor stadium, which was recently inaugurated by University of Mysore (UoM) vice-chancellor Hemantha Kumar.

Dr Sr Sajitha, Director of Teresian College, Mysuru said, “The college is not only very particular about academics but also gives equal importance to the overall development of students and the general public. If the students are healthy, they can not only perform well in academics but also be a good asset to society. If he or she has immense talent in any sport, they can also achieve in representing the state and country. Sports help in maintaining a sound mind and a sound body. We have launched the Teresian Sports Academy keeping in mind the overall development of the students and the general public.”

Anthony Moses, Physical Education Director of Teresian College said, “To impart quality training, we will try to get quality coaches and assistance from the Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore. Apart from this, there are alumni from this college who have represented the state and the country and are working in various government sectors in Mysuru and Bengaluru. Many of them have already offered their help to the academy to groom budding sports persons.”
