Mysuru: In the wake of drought looming large in the region, the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru D Randeep has banned the sale of soft drinks in multiplexes and theatres and made tender coconuts sale mandatory in order to give some relief to farmers in distress.

The DC has asked the theatre and multiplex owners to comply with the order as the farmers were fighting a tough battle for survival in drought-stricken areas of the state. It would lead to consumption of nature fresh and healthy tender coconut water instead of soft drinks, DC stated.

M K Pranesh, Member of Legislative Council from Chikkmagalur District, had written to the horticulture minister to make the sale of tender coconuts mandatory at all multiplexes and cinema halls to give relief to farmers in distress.

In response, commissioner of horticulture department sent a circular to all deputy commissioners to take action to sell tender water in all multiplexes and theatres in their respective districts. DC Randeep’s order is in line with that directive, asking the members of theatre/multiplex union to abide.
