Mysuru: State election commission has nominated Singer Shree Harsha as youth icon of Mysuru district Lok Sabha election. Shree Harsha will come out with a two minute song soon, probably within a day or two, to create awareness about the importance of voting.

K Jyothi, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, who is also in charge of SVEEP related programs, briefed about various programs which were undertaken as part of SVEEP. “The importance of voting awareness started from January 25, 2019 by conducting drawing and painting competitions for school children. Later we conducted various other programmes including streetplays and voters literary club awareness programme through various media. We have already conducted more than 100 programs under SVEEP, and we are confident of conducting another 50 more programmes by April 16. Through these various programmes we have reached 15 lakh voters among 25 lakh across the district. We want to improve our voting percentage both at rural and urban level,” said Jyothi. The ZP CEO also mentioned that more Rs 19 lakh has already been spent on the voting awareness programmes.

“To increase voting percentage in tribal places including ‘Girijana Haadi’, where we got fewer votes in the previous election, we have formed special teams including the help of local people to create awareness among people and requesting them to exercise their franchise without fail on April 18. When compared to the last election, voters during this election will be getting voter slips two to three days well in advance. At Mysuru, which attracts thousands of people every day, we have decided to come out with selfie zone so that we can create awareness not only among local people but also tourists who come to zoo. In a couple of days we will also be conducting marathon and cycling,” added Jyothi.

Shree Harsha, who also spoke on the occasion, said “It’s really great and a huge opportunity for me. I will put all my effort to attract more number of people to vote. I am already working on a two minute song which is focused on creating voting awareness. The song also tells that Voting is more important than touring”.

Raju, Assistant Director of Information Department was also present during the briefing.
