Mysuru: As part of the Varamalakshmi festival, the Hastashilpi has organised a six-day "Silk India 2018" expo at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry from July 11 to 16. There will be 25 percent discount on all the silk sarees.
Speaking to media persons, T Abhinandan of Hastashilpi said that various silk sarees weavers, handloom clusters and silk cooperative societies will be showcasing their products in the exposition. “The intention of the organisation is to make accessible the products available directly to the customers without the mediator to the weavers and artisans. The saree rates start from a minimum of Rs 1800 to maximum of Rs 1.30 Lakh. Silk sarees of 18 different states including Calcutta silk sarees will be up for sale at the expo. The entry will be free for public and it will be opened for public from 10.30 AM to 8.30 PM.” He also mentioned that the expo is also a platform for the artisans to sell their products directly to the customers which in turn is more profitable not only to the artisans but also to the customers.
He further said that the products available at the exhibition include Arini silk Sarees, Crepe and Georgette silk sarees, Chiffon silk sarees, Tassar silk sarees and suit, Kanjeevaram silk sarees & wedding sarees, designer fancy Sarees, Dharmavaram Silk Sarees, raw silk & Tassar, Jute silk sarees, Dhaka silk sarees, handloom silk cotton sarees, silk blend sarees and stole, silk shawls, Uppada, Gadwal, Paithani sarees, Mangalagiri and Pochampalli silk sarees and others. “Notably, different varieties of silk are reared based on climatic and geographic conditions of which only four namely Tassar, Eri, Mulberry and Muga are the prominent ones”, added Abhinandan.
