Mysuru: As a strong retaliation against the decision of the Apex Court allowing the women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala sanctum, the Ayyappa Bhakti Mandali of Mysuru, staged a protest under a slogan “Save Sabarimala”, here on Tuesday, October 9.
The protest was flagged off on Tuesday morning in front of the Kote Anjaneya Temple of the Mysuru Palace.
Meantime, the members of the Ayyappa Bhakti Mandali said that the decision of the Supreme Court allowing women to enter the Sabarimala temple is against the ritual of “Vratha” (a 48-day ritual of strict vegetarian diet and staying away from women including spouse).
“The decision has struck the belief system of the devotees. Earlier only girls below five years of age and women who have completed the menstruation cycle were allowed. But this decision has allowed women of all age groups, which has saddened the devotees”, they added.
The protest along with slogans began from the Kote Anjaneya Temple of the Mysuru Palace and moved towards Gandhi Chowk, K T Street, Irwin Road and dispersed at the Sri Satyanarayana Temple located on Sayyaji Rao Road.
