Mysuru: For the first time, to get the accurate number of participants during International Yoga Day celebration, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of Ministry of AYUSH has sent a request for Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) assistance for satellite mapping of the event which will be held across the world on June 21.

Last year, across the world, approximately 7 to 8 crore took part in the International Yoga Day celebration while this year the organisers have planned to increase it to 10 crore to 12 crore. The satellite mapping will help the ministry to get an idea of the number of events and people who participate.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Eshwar Basava Reddy, Director of Moraji Desai Rashtriya Yoga Samsthan said, “Once the accurate number of participants is known, it will be an advantage for the organisers in many ways. The accurate number will also enable us to organise the event in a much better way. The AYUSH department has written a letter to the ISRO chief and asked him if he could help in mapping the event participation between 7 AM and 8 AM from across the world using their satellites.

This year the International Yoga Day celebration, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be taking part, will be held at Forest Research Institute ground in Dehradun. The rehearsal for the same was held on June 7. The organisers have targeted 60,000 people. In Rajasthan, where Baba Ramdev will be taking part, the organisers have planned to attract more than 2 lakh people.
