Mysuru: Controversial writer Professor K S Bhagawan has lashed out at state political leaders claiming that they have neglected Kannada language.

Addressing the gathering at a literary event on Sunday, November 3, he said, “Most of our state politicians have no regard and respect towards the Kannada language. Meanwhile, just look at the Tamil Nadu politicians, they worship their language and have utmost respect towards their mother tongue Tamil. The fate of our state is that the Kannada language has lost its charm.”

“The specialty of people of Karnataka is that we adapt to different languages, learn to speak and understand them. But, we never make an attempt to teach Kannada to the people from other states”, he added.

Giving his opinion on nurturing the Kannada language, Bhagawan said, “How is it even possible to help Kannada language flourish, when the usage of English language is at its peak? If we improve our knowledge and study everything in Kannada, then only will the language flourish.”

It can be recalled that Professor Bhagawan had sparked a controversy by negatively commenting (allegedly) on Hindu scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, and the Vedas. He had also supported the concept of “Mahisha Dasara” (Dasara celebrations that hail the demon Mahishasura).
