Mysuru: With three days to go for the celebration of the Tipu Jayanti, tense situation prevailed in several parts of the state with several pro-Tipu organizations planning to celebrate the Jayanti with the help of like-minded organizations. Mysuru and Srirangapatna, capital cities of Tipu will be the epicentre of these protests.
A protest erupted in Mysuru seeking permission to celebrate the Tipu Jayanti on Wednesday. Local Congress strongman and former minister Tanveer Sait led the protest. Sait is planning to celebrate the Jayanti at Banni Mantap grounds.
Hundreds of Congress activists staged a dharna. The protest was withdrawn after an assurance from the district administration that a decision on issuing permission will be given after consulting with the advocate general.
