Mysuru: The state government is acquiring more than 2,000 acres of land and the process of compensation has already begun for widening of Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, said District and PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa.

He indicated that the civil works on the widening of the highway, which is National Highway 275, could begin by December this year if the Centre expedited the process. The project to widen the 117 kms highway is expected to take at least three years to complete. The highway, which was made into a four lane highway more than ten years ago, is having heavy traffic especially on holidays and weekends.

Mahadevappa also mentioned that he would take up the issue of widening of Mysuru-Bengaluru highway with the Union Surface Transport Ministry at the earliest.
