Mysuru: Congress MLC Raghu Achar has condemned sitting BJP MP Pratap Simha for his statement that former chief minister Devaraj Urs had given Rs 500 to the electorate to get votes.

Addressing media at the Press Club here on Thursday, March 28, Achar said, “It is really unfortunate that such irresponsible statement is made by Pratap Simha who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Mysuru constituency. There should be healthy politics, not cheap politics.”

“Pratap Simha has stated that many former MPs of Mysuru got money from private companies and constructed their houses. He was Member of Parliament for five years. What was he doing all these years and why such allegations during the time of election? If at all he was transparent, he should have exposed such allegations by writing to the officials concerned. I have seen the previous MPs of Mysuru including Vishwanath and C H Vijayashankar who have done good service during their tenure. Hence, instead of coming up with unnecessary allegations, he should just focus on his campaign with healthy politics,” he added.

“Pratap Simha, in his affidavit, has mentioned that he is not having his own house. Though he is having a helicopter and 25 imported cars, he makes such claims. Such silly statements to attract voters will not do any good. These kind of statements show that he is fearing defeat in the parliamentary election. Even now, he has got time to withdraw his nomination papers. It is better for him to withdraw his nomination and in the money that he is going to spend for the election, he can construct his house,” said Achar.

R Murthy, City Congress President, said “G T Devegowda was busy attending various convocations including at Kolar and Kalaburgi. From Friday, March 29, he will be attending the meeting conveyed by Congress and later he will actively participate in the campaign. Various other Congress leaders including Janata Dal (S) leader Chaluvegowda will also take part in the campaign.”
