Mysuru: The incessant rains along the Ghat section of Hassan – Mangalore Railway lines, especially between Subramanya Road station and Yedakumeri Station, has caused series of landslides thus obstructing the railway line and even damaging them at few places. Such landslides have occurred in more than 10 places and a list has been enclosed with the report. The first landslide was noticed at 6.25 am on Monday.
According to official sources, an expert team of officers, including engineers rushed to the spot and undertook restoration work. Since the landslide has happened at multiple locations, train number 16515 Yeswanthpur – Karwar express on Monday was terminated at Hassan station and passengers were provided with the full refund of the fare. Also arrangement has been made with KSRTC at Hassan for facilitating onward journey of passengers. Train number 16576 Mangalore Junction – Yeswanthpur train is being run via Shoranur, Coimbatore for the day.
The inclement weather condition is being monitored closely by railway authorities and all safety precautions prescribed for monsoon are strictly enforced. Track Patrolling staff are pressed into service and other safety-related staff have been put on high alert. In addition, speed restriction has been imposed in the ghat section since the safety of passengers is of supreme importance to Railways.
The information being put up for public knowledge as monsoon is expected to be more than normal for a period of 2-3 months. The rainfall during the last monsoon was 245mm and the rainfall for the current season till today is 810mm that is 230.612% more compared to last year. Therefore, public are requested to check the forecast for rain and plan the journey accordingly.
