Mysuru: Those who came to Arasikere Railway Station on Friday morning were in for a shock to witness an accident there but not for long! They just took a chill pill once they realised it was just a scene created to check the alertness of railway employees.

A mock drill was conducted at Arsikere Railway station by Safety Department of Mysore Division to test the accident preparedness that comprised real time rescue and relief operations of the Breakdown Special Team of Mysuru division during accidents involving passengers in trains.

An accident scene was created at Arsikere Railway station with two bogies of a train derailing. But what brought in the action and immediate relief to the wailing passengers shouting for help was the arrival of self-propelled accident relief van of the railway carrying men, materials equipment and medical help. The rescue personnel immediately brought out stretchers, forced open some windows and shifted the injured to the first aid centres and waiting ambulances. The rescue team with the help of latest equipment managed to break window the grill of the bogie and got inside to rescue the trapped and injured passengers. If there are minor train accidents, the breakdown team of the division will attend and set right the problems but if there are any major mishaps the breakdown team along with NDRF will take up the operation.

Venkateshwara Rao, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, Mysuru Division, South Western Railway said, “During the nearly four-hour drill, the breakdown special team along with experts from Meeraj came out with good skills. Rescue measures including coach cutting, coach body lifting with the crane all and saving the trapped passengers were done within the stipulated time, he lauded.
