Mysuru: Due to lack of admissions and demand, 25 percent of the Post Graduate engineering courses affiliated to the VTU have been canceled or closed from this academic year. The VTU, after conducting thorough research and based on market need is mulling to introduce new PG courses from academic year 2019-20.
Nearly 25 percent of the engineering courses including those introduced a couple of years ago, will be closed from this year. Among the 90 engineering colleges which were conducting PG courses, most of them requested for the cancellation of PG courses which were not in demand.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, HN Jaganatha Reddy, Registrar, VTU, Belagavi said that even industries are not opting for PG students and hence students are going for two years of practical experience in industries rather than going for two years of PG course.
He said that it will be difficult for colleges which have invested a lot on infrastructure but, there is no other way out. “The courses are not meeting industrial requirements and hence there is no point in running them,” he added.
