Operation decoy: Police rein in auto-rickshaws overcharging commuters

Mysuru: City policemen in plainclothes seized 25 autos for overcharging daily commuters and those arriving at bus, railway stations through ‘operation decoy’ in the city on January 17.

Both men and women police constables dressed in plainclothes took rides in auto-rickshaws to assess the amount charged for travel. Some refused to take the commuters to desired destination, while others charges exorbitant rates. Few even opted not to use meters and attempted fleecing commuters.The operation was carried out at important locations such as City bus-stand Devaraj Urs road, Krishna Vilas road,Vinoba road and JLB road,

Around 25 auto rickshaws were trapped during the operation and taken to Devaraja police station. Each driver was fined Rs 300 and later released the vehicle with a strict warning, not to repeat the offense.
