Mysuru: The University of Mysore has seen three in-charge vice chancellors (VC) in the past one year alone. Now, the Dean of Education at University of Mysore Ningamma Betsur has been appointed as in-charge vice chancellor of University of Mysore on May 3. However, she will be on the post for only 22 days as her deanship ends on May 25.
Betsur is the fourth in-charge VC of the varsity in one year. Ever since K S Rangappa stepped down from the office on January 10, 2017, the post of vice chancellor is vacant. The government is yet to appoint a permanent vice chancellor to University of Mysore even after 15 months have lapsed. In the meantime, Prof. Yashwanth Dongre, Prof. Dayanand Mane and Prof. C Basavaraju have served as the in-charge VCs.
On May 2, confusion reigned at the university as the orders received from Karnataka Governor’s office mentioned Betsur to be the dean of Science and Technology instead of her official designation as dean of Education. The authorities at the university sought clarifications from Governor’s office on the matter. After getting clarification from Governors office, Ningamma Betsur’s appointment as in-charge vice chancellor was announced.
