Mysuru: If you think the newly inaugurated 100-bed Trauma Care Centre is functional then you are wrong. Though Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had inaugurated the centre – a one stop facility for all emergency services including cases of accidents – along with Jayadeva Hospital, the same is expected to be functional only after four to five months time.

Contrary to the outer appearance of the physical structure, which gives it a complete look, around 30 percent of civil works besides the equipment remain pending.

The trauma care centre, set up at 5-acre plot in the premise of PKTB sanatorium on KRS road will be an exclusive ‘Emergency and casualty department’ with all facilities including neuro-care under one roof. Initially the project cost was estimated at Rs 25 crore. However the overall cost, including the basement work, has gone upto Rs 36 crore, nearly Rs 11 crore more that the initial estimate. This figure does not include the cost for the equipments which is being pegged at over Rs 18 crore

The total built up area of the centre is 14,773 sq mtr. The work on the project began on January 1, 2016 and was supposed to be complete by March 31, 2017. However it got delayed due to inclusion of basement work, which was not included in the project initially. A decision to include a basement in the project was taken at the time of excavation .

Though majority of the work on ground floor is complete, the work on the basement, first floor and second floor are pending. Going by ground reality, and timely sanctions of money by the government it may take three months time to complete the civil works.

On completion of the civil works, the centre which is functioning under directorate of Medical Education and attached to Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) would procure the necessary equipments, and appoint specialists.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Dr CP Nanjaraj, Director of MMCRI said “Just the building and ground floor have been completed so far. Lot of work, including procuring instruments and manpower need to be undertaken. Only after these things are available we can start functioning. It may take another four to five months time.”

Manjunath, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department said, “Within two months we will complete all civil works and later will take up road-related works. The total cost of the project including basement is Rs 33 crore”.

Trauma Care Centre will lessen burden on KR Hospital:

During the time of accidents, especially major accidents it becomes difficult to accommodate more patients at hospital. Due to lack of space and doctors, the existing doctors are put into lot of work and stress. Once the centre becomes a reality, it will not be advantageous for patients but also for doctors who can treat patients much better with much better facilities. On Wednesday, when nearly 45 accident victims had to be accommodated at KR Hospital, the doctors as well as the patients were put into lot of stress.

Newly inaugurated Jayadeva Hospital on KRS road will also take minimum two month for functioning:

Its not only Trauma Care Centre, it’s the same with Jayadeva Hospital which will take another two months time for functioning.
