Mysuru: Karnataka Nayakara Yuva Vedike members demanded an apology from former chief minister Jagadish Shettar for his remark on Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda.

Addressing media persons at Press Club here on June 13, Devaraj T Katoor, President of Karnataka Nayakara Yuva Vedike said, “In the recently concluded assembly election, representing Chamundeshwari constituency, G T Devegowda, an eighth standard passed candidate registered nearly 36,000 votes victory over Congress candidate former chief minister Siddaramaiah. People irrespective of community and education voted for G T Devegowda. Due to his familiarity and talent, during portfolio distribution, chief minister gave G T Devegowda the cabinet portfolio of Higher Education. Soon after G T Devegowda was made higher education minister, Jagadish Shettar reacted saying, ‘How is he going to speak in convocations?’ Jagadish Shettar insulted G T Devegowda. He should know that not every minister is educated or that all the educated will deliver. There are instances wherein many, even without passing matriculation, have given good administration. Jagadish Shettar should know that in our country there is no educational qualification to become a minister. He should understand that more than education if one has prudence, they can provide good administration.”

‘More representation for Nayaka Community’

The members also demanded more representation to Nayaka community. The community played an important role in getting elected many MLAs. Hence we request the government to give more representation not only in ministry but also while giving board chairman posts, to Nayaka Community. The community members also appreciated the contribution of G T Devegowda for Nayaka community.

‘Satish Jharkiholi should be made minister immediately’

“It’s really unfortunate that senior Congress and community leader Satish Jharkiholi was not given a portfolio. In the coming days, he should be immediately made a minister and given prominent portfolios”, added Katoor.
