Mysuru Warriors to organise talent hunt on July 15 and July 18

Mysuru: Want to be a part of the Mysuru Warrior KPL team? Here is an opportunity! In line with its vision to nurture sporting talents in the hinterlands of Karnataka, NR Group, the owners of Mysuru Warriors announced their fifth edition of Talent Hunt at Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on July 15 and at SDNR Stadium in Mysuru on July 18. Mysuru Warriors has provided permanent job to more than 14 players who performed outstandingly during the KPL and league matches in its firm.

The talent hunt is specially organised for KSCA registered clubs in entire Karnataka, as there is a lot of potential found here when it comes to cricket. The talent hunt aims to foster fresh cricketing talent and subsequently coach and nurture them. This initiative of Mysuru Warriors is an opportunity for the players to enter the professional cricketing arena. The selected players will get a chance to represent Mysuru Warriors and play at the upcoming KPL 2018, powered by Cycle Pure Agarbathies. The Talent Hunt begins at 8 AM and players from registered club under KSCA will compete in the selection process. The players would need to carry their KSCA statistics of the last two years and their kits while arriving for their selection.

During last year’s cricket talent hunt held in Mysuru and Bengaluru, around 205 aspiring cricketers had participated from across the state. Nearly 105 participants, out of whom 50 were bowlers, 10 were batsmen, 40 all-rounders and 5 wicket keeper-cum-batsmen, had contested for a position in the team from Mysuru while in Bengaluru, around 100 aspirants participated in talent hunt. Around 43 players were shortlisted for the final round to play Open Net in PET Cricket Ground, Mandya. 12 shortlisted players, at the end of the final rounds, underwent a series of practice sessions with Mysuru Warriors team players, after which two players-Nanda Kishore, right arm fast bowler and right batsman from Jo Jo Cricket Club and Kishan Bedare, right hand top order batsman and right arm medium fast bowler from National Cricket Club were selected to represent Mysuru Warriors team. Started in 2009, the Karnataka Premier League is now in its seventh season that commences from August 2018.

Speaking about the Talent Hunt, Arjun Ranga, Owner, Mysuru Warriors said, “NR Group has always believed in nurturing talent in sports, be it cricket or any other. We are proud to host the talent hunt and it is a pleasure to give players a chance to represent Mysuru Warriors. Through this Talent Hunt, we intend to spot good cricketers and provide them a platform to grow and prove themselves.”

M R Suresh, team manager of Mysuru Warrior said, “Every year through talent search, we select two players and four to five from Mysuru will be part of the team. In the first appearance, Mysuru Warriors had given opportunity to nine players from Mysuru which included Manjesh Reddy, S P Manjunath, B N Bharath, Aditya Sagar, M B Darshan, Vyshak Vijaykumar and J Suchith. J Suchith and B N Bharath also got selected to represent Mumbai and Royal Challengers IPL team respectively. Mysuru Warriors was the first KPL team to give opportunity to Mysuru lad Nikin Jose who was just 16-year-old when he debuted in Mysuru Warriors. More than 14 outstanding players who performed well in KPL and league match have been provided permanent job opportunities in our firm. Many promising cricketers who were part of KPL team got benefited with the exposure of talented and outstanding players in the team and went on to represent higher level of cricket which includes Kishan Bedare who is really doing well in the state matches. The team is also involved in a lot of charity including construction of free libraries at government schools, providing financial assistance to hospitals and promising sports persons not only cricketers but also to others.”

Mysuru Warriors Team entered KPL in 2014 and emerged champions in the same season. Two-star players from Mysuru Warriors entered IPL in 2014 and the legacy continues. Most of the players selected by Mysuru Warriors have carved a niche for themselves in the Indian cricketing arena especially, the captain, Karun Nair, who has played for India ‘A’. Manish Pandey who is a regular member of the Indian team in the limited overs format also led Mysuru Warriors successfully. Mysuru Warriors aims is to give an opportunity to young cricketers to experience professional cricket under lights and in the high-pressure T-20 format. The team exhibited tremendous performance during last KPL and made it to the semi-finals and hoping to do well this season as well.

The kind of professionalism shown by the NR Group in cricket management, which is benefiting the budding and promising cricketers as a whole, it seems like the firm may soon have its IPL team.
