T Narsipur: In an unexpected development the Mysuru Superintendent of Police D Chennanavar made a solemn promise in the name of deity Chamundeshwari on February 18, to wipe out illegal sand mining and liquor trade in the district which has grown out of proportions.

Child sale racket: Naseema hospital sealed-1Speaking at a citizen connect (Jansamparka) programme jointly organised by the police department and taluk administration in T Narsipur , SP Chennanavar listed out the number of cases in the district to show the rampant illegal sand and liquor trade. During 2013-16, around 600 cases had been registered and more than 2000 people booked in the district but more than 70 percent of them had managed to get anticipatory bail, Chennanavar revealed.

The cases treated as closed would be reopened, punished if found guilty irrespective of their political clout and ultimately extradited, the SP warned.

He termed certain emerging reports of government permitting people to ferry sand in bullock carts to construct government sponsored Ashraya houses and toilets as baseless. Even those consignments would be confiscated and only on relevant documentation approved by town council they would be sold at reduced prices to the real beneficiaries, SP clarified.

“Cases related to illegal liquor trade are on the rise”, noted SP Chennanavar and added, “Offenders including organisations will be booked under the law and trade licenses of outlets found violating the rules will be cancelled.”
