Mysuru Railway Station bags ninth rank in A category

Mysuru: In ‘A’ category railway stations, Mysuru Railway station bagged the ninth rank in the all India ranking for railway stations in terms of cleanliness. Last year, it had bagged the 14th rank. It is the only ‘A’ category station from South Western Railway to figure in top 10.

The railway authorities say that they accord top priority for cleanliness at the railway station round the year irrespective of any ranking or inspections. The survey conducted by Quality Council of India has assessed 407 A1 and A category of railway stations. The survey is based on process evaluation, direct observation, citizen feedback and station manager interview.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Ajay Kumar Sinha, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru division, South Western Railway said, “Due to the initiative taken by the division including painting the station, cleaning it, passenger awareness-with the combined efforts from administration and passengers, we managed to achieve this feet. In the coming days, we will try to improve further.”

“Apart from Mysuru Railway Station, we are also looking at improving other stations including Davangere and Shivamogga. Last year, in ‘A’ category stations, Davangere stood 234th rank while this year it has improved its ranking to 74th place. It’s the same with Shivamogga Railway Station. Last year, it stood 154th place while this year, it has secured 137th place”, added Sinha. The credit also goes to cleanliness staff. The Divisional Environment and House Keeping Management (DEnHM) which was formed for overall monitoring of cleanliness in major stations also played an important role in keeping the station neat and clean.

Sudhakar S Shetty, President, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) said, “Due to awareness among people especially in Mysuru and sincere efforts by railway authorities, the Mysuru Railway Station managed to bag the ninth place in cleanliness. Still, there is a lot of scope for improvement.”
