Mysuru: The 111-year-old Siddaganga Mutt Seer Shivakumara Swamiji, who passed away on Monday, had a deep attachment towards Suttur Mutt. He not only had a good rapport with Suttur Seer Rajendramahaswamiji, but also had a good equation with the present Suttur Seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. In 2018, he also inaugurated ten-day dasara event.
Shivakumara Swamiji used to visit Suttur Mutt everytime he visited Mysuru and also stayed there. He used visit Suttur without fail for the annual Suttur Jathra.
Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji also had high regards for Shivakumara Swamiji. Suttur Seer Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji visited Siddaganga Mutt and met Shivakumara Swamiji before the latter was taken to Chennai for treatment. The last function Shivakumara Swamiji attended in Mysuru was the inauguration of the centenary celebration of late Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji at Maharaja Ground in January of 2016. It can also be brought to notice that a few days ago, even Yaduveer Wadiyar visited Siddaganga Mutt to see Shivakumara Swamiji.
The Walking God, as Shivakumara Swaijinwas addressed was respected by all irrespective of religion.
Speaking to Newskarnataka Hazrath Moulana Mohammed Usman Shariff, Sir Khazi of Mysuru, who met Shivakumara Swamiji couple of times said “It’s a great loss not only to Karnataka but also to the country. Irrespective of any community, the Swamiji took care of lakhs of people; especially the Muslim community people in Tumkuru have benefited a lot. He not only helped the community but also helped the people financially and also helped in the construction of mosques. He is highly respected religious leader and with his demise, we lost a great leader who fought hard for the welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed and community”.
Maleyur Guruswamy, a retired professor said, “Shivakumara Swamiji used to come to Mysuru to meet Gowrishankar Swamiji who was senior to Shivakumara Swamiji where Suttur seer Rajendra Swamiji was also used to come. All the three swamijis became very close but unfortunately, Gowrishankar Swamiji died due to cancer at Velore hospital. With the demise of Gowrshankar Swamiji, Shivakumara Swamiji and Rajendra Swamiji became very close. Rajendra Swamiji also used to get guidance from Shivakumara Swamiji. Shivakumara Swamiji had completed BA and was well versed in Sanskrit and English. He used to impart English classes in the mutt. Irrespective of caste, creed and community Shivakumara Swamiji used to help people. Baragud Ramachandrappa, Mukyamantri Chandru, BS Siddalingaiah and BS Shivarudrappa also studied in Siddaganga Mutt. If he comes to Mysuru or Suttur mutt, all other religious leaders used to come and meet him. "
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, in her condolence message, said, “I am saddened to learn about the sad demise of the divine personality, the most revered his holiness Padmabhushana Karnataka Ratna Shivakumara Swamiji. His personality was unique and his selfless service to the society was extraordinary. He was a formidable saviour of the economically weaker section of our society. The Gurukula housing over 8500 children from all religions providing food, shelter and education (trividha dasoha) truly is an unparalleled service worthy to emulate. I convey my deepest condolences to the junior swamiji of the mutt, disciples and people of Tumkur in this hour of grief. I pray for his noble soul to rest in peace”
More than one lakh people are expected to pay last respect to Shivakumara Swamiji. People from across Mysuru district are expected to pay their last respect to Shivakumara Swamiji. After hearing the news of his demise, hundreds of people have left to Siddaganga Mutt.
