Mysuru: The City of Culture scripted a new chapter by entering into the Guinness Book of World Records with its International Day of Yoga performance on June 21 this year.

The dream of entering the record books was shattered earlier when Ahmadabad overtook Mysuru by a slender margin. In the event in which Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev participated in Ahmedabad, 54522 Yoga participants had taken part, whereas Mysuru recorded 54101.

The district administration had failed to take count of the participants who were present at the venue before the event began that day. On reverification of records, the district administration found the total head count to be 55506 instead of the recorded 54101.

Accordingly, the district administration requested Guinness to verify the records and furnished all relevant details.

On scrutiny, the evaluators from Guinness found that 55,506 people of all age groups were present at the race course venue on the International Day of Yoga, surpassing Ahmadabad’s total of 54522 by a margin of 984.

Accordingly, the City of Culture received the coveted Guinness Book of Records, adding one more feather to its cap.
