Mysuru district health office turns into breeding ground for mosquitoes

Mysuru: The district health office which should set an example for others by maintaining cleanliness in its premises. However, unfortunately the pathetic condition at the health office has made it a breeding ground for all types of mosquitoes, including dengue and malaria.

Though a big mosquito model is displayed within the premises to make people aware of the mosquito menace, it is now felt that the model here is to alert the people of the mosquitoes within the premises.

A visit to the office reveals the condition of despair here. Just a few feet away from the mosquito’s model, there is a drain where garbage, including plastic bottles are found dumped. A further tour will show the weeds growing here and stagnated drainage water near the maternity ward in the premises.

The patients and even employees are fed up with the prevailing condition at district health office. Few of the patients who had come for treatment at maternity ward took discharge and went to other hospital for treatment. The garbage litter behind the maternity ward has been puuting the patients and their family members into lot of inconvenience.

The condition of this office premise has remained the same for the past many years. Surprisingly, none of the authorities failed to take steps to keep the premises neat and clean. With the district health office premise is in this state the question arises what one can expect from these officials concerned.

The entire premise is in a state of bother. On the terrace where couple of office is set up, one can see water stagnation, which is a perfect place for mushrooming of dengue mosquitoes. The employees with no other option are forced to work in the prevailing conditions.

Some of the parking areas at the office premise have been turned into a shed for cattle due to which there are lots of mosquitoes which pose a danger to the health of not only employees but also to the people who visit the office.

Though the district health officials are organizing several awareness program for others to keep premises neat and clean educating people about adverse effect of water stagnation in view of the alarming rise in dengue cases and dengue suspect cases in the district they themselves have failed in the same. If the authorities fail to take immediate steps to maintain cleanliness it won’t be surprising, to hear couple of dengue, Chikungunya or Malaria cases from the district health office employees in coming days.
