Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D Randeep has directed the city police to book MP Prathap Simha for violating the restrictions put up during Hanuma Jayanthi in Hunsur recently.

The DC has directed the police to register a complaint under Motor Act.

It is learnt that during Hanuma Jayanthi, the district administration had strictly prohibited the use of special vehicle which was violated by the MP.

DC reacting on the same, said, “We had taken Hanuma Jayanthi celebration seriously. There will not be such restrictions for other celebrations of any religion. Since the previous celebration had evoked problems, the district administration had to intervene.”

Hundreds of devotees had joined the rescheduled Hanuma Jayanthi celebrations in the town with Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha leading the procession on January 27.

The procession, which was originally scheduled for December 3, was cancelled over a dispute between officials and supporters of Pratap Simha, on the route of the procession which was later resolved at a meeting. Elected representatives were not allowed to travel in special vehicles nor deliver speeches during the festivities. The town had witnessed heavy police presence with CCTV cameras placed at strategic points along the procession route.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and Superintendent of Police Ravi D Channanavar had closely monitored the security situation.
