Mysuru: Pegged as ‘Modern Shravan Kumar’, D Krishna Kumar from Mysuru was elated to receive the key of his new car gifted to him by none other than Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra.
Krishna Kumar and his septuagenarian mother Chudarathna had hit headlines last year with their pan-India temple run on their 20-year-old scooter. The scooter was gifted to Krishna by his father.
The story of the mother-son duo went viral and Anand Mahindra had then declared that he was gifting a vehicle to the ‘Modern Shravan Kumar’.
“A beautiful story. About the love for a mother but also about the love for a country… Thank you for sharing this Manoj. If you can connect him to me, I’d like to personally gift him a Mahindra KUV 100 NXT so he can drive his mother in a car on their next journey,” Anand Mahindra had tweeted then.
Keeping up his promise, Mahindra gifted a brand new Mahindra TUV 100 Nxt through Mysore Indian Garage to Krishna and his mother.
On receiving the car, Krishna drove his mother to hilltop shrine of Chamundeshwati to offer prayers and also said that his mother is fascinated to see such installations inside the car that she has been quizzing him continuously about the same.
By January 2020, the duo had completed 56,552 kms on the scooter.
The adventure which began on January 16, 2018, took the mother-son duo across India and also four countries — Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. They had opted to live in temples and monastries instead of hotels.
Kumar says that scooter on which he undertook his journey shall not be discarded after the introduction of the two-wheeler. Instead, it will remain an integral part of his life.
