Nanjangud: Stones were pelted during the Valmiki Jayanthi procession on Sunday, October 13, just because the police did not allow the DJ music.

The procession began from the Junior College Grounds, organized by Nayaka community, and around 12 DJ music vehicles participated.

According to the reports, the vehicles which had installed loud speakers were creating a lot of noise which was disturbing the civilians. Due to this, the police reduced the number of DJ vehicles from 12 to 2.

Enraged by this, a group of youths began pelting stones at buses and other vehicles at the Hejjige Linganna Circle, as well as the Srikanteshwar Kala Bhavan, and demanded that the programme be stopped.

DySP Mallik, Circle Inspector Shekhar and Inspector Puneeth of the rural jurisdiction were seen being man-handled by the mob. Amidst the ruckus, the DySP lost his wallet which contained Rs 25,000 in cash.

As the situation turned worse, the police began lathi charge and took 40 people into custody.
