MMCRI’s goof up during admission leaves 32 students in lurch

Mysuru: The fate of 32 students who got admission to BSc courses offered by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) a month ago, is now hanging in limbo with its authorities all of sudden overturning the selection process and offering a refund of fees.

Following this, students and their parents staged a protest in front of MMCRI demanding justice.
Lack of knowledge about the new admission process on the part of MMCRI authorities has left both students and their parents in anxiety.

The students were selected in the first list to BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc in Imaging and Technology and BSc in Respiratory Care.

MMCRI invited application for these courses and were in the process of selection based on the merit as usual without considering the latest admission process. Starting from this year the students were supposed to apply online and get the seats through the Karnataka Examination Authority. It also provided an opportunity for eligible students from across Karnataka to apply.

The MMCRI authorities claimed they were not aware of it and selected students as usual. They then announced the first list for three of its BSc allied courses and had also collected fees and original mark sheets. About 32 students were selected in the first list.

When MMCRI authorities were about to announce the second list after obtaining approval from higher authorities in Bengaluru, they were in for a shock to know that they should have followed new rules.

Though the notification in this regard was issued on August 21, MMCRI authorities came to know about it on August 23.

“With no fault of ours we now have to suffer. How can they quash seat after collecting fees and certificates? It’s an injustice done to us. The onus to continue our selection is on the authorities. We don’t know whether we would get seats if we apply online,” said several students.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Nanjaraj, Director and Dean of MMCRI said “Due to communication gap we had to face this problem. There is a separate principal/head to look after these three courses. We had announced only the first list during July. When we were to announce the second list we came to know about the new system wherein the students had to apply online to get seats through the KEA.”
He pointed that the demand for three courses has shot up drastically from mere 12 applications last year to over 100 this year.
