Mysuru: Here is good news for the meritorious medical course aspirant! The Mysuru Medical College and Research and Institute (MMCRI) is going all out in its efforts to enhance its medical seats (MBBS) from 150 to 250.
Dr. C P Nanjaraj , Head of Radiology Department who took charge as the Director of MMCRI few days ago is keen to enhance the medical seats. To accommodate more seats, he is first focusing on improving the present infrastructure at the college.
Dr. Nanjaraj, who did his MBBS (1979 to 1984) and MD in Radiology (1992 to 1995) from this institute, said, “Since 1979, I am very familiar with this institute. I will be giving more emphasis on improving infrastructure, especially, the construction of additional classrooms, lecture halls, and cleanliness. Not only classrooms, we will try to get the other required minimum facilities for students. Apart from infrastructure, we should also increase our teaching faculties. After having minimum infrastructure to accommodate nearly 250 students, we will again request the Medical Council of India and state government to enhance medical seats from the present 150 seats to 250.”
“We are positive in our approach. If we get the required grants and sanctions for our above request it will be good for medical aspirants”, added Nanjaraj.
For the past more than five years MMCRI has been trying for PG and Diploma course in Psychiatry but it is yet to get a nod from the central government. MMCRI requested for two seats each in PG and Diploma. In India there is great demand for psychiatry in private medical colleges. If one has to pursue PG Psychiatry, they need to cough up more than a crore of rupees. Recently, MMCRI got a Professor in Psychiatry. It is hoped that this year, it may get permission to start PG and Diploma course in Psychiatry.
