Miscreants raze standing plantain crop due for harvest on NYE

Mysuru: Miscreants with evil designs chopped down 1900 fully grown plantain tress spread over one-and-half acre land on New Year Eve (NYE) in Attahalli village of Bannur taluk making the grower shed tears in an incident difficult to comprehend.

Miscreants seized the opportunity in the absence of grower Ramprasad and his sons Vinay Prasad, Vijay Prasad. They had gone to Shivamogga and Mysuru respectively on some personal assignments on the ill-fated night, when the miscreants barged in to their field to raze the standing crop due for harvest. However, the cause for the evil deed in not known.

Shocked by the turn of events, grower Ramprasad in tears ran out of words after spending huge amount in nurturing 1900 plants with manure and care.

Attahalli Devaraju, representing Sugar cane growers’ association said, “In our state there is neither security for the farmer nor his crops”.

Area tahsildar and the horticultural departmental heads were informed of the incident with a plea to assist the grower in distress.
