MCC polls: Grahakara Parishat to support two independent candidates

Mysuru: To improve the governance at Mysuru City Corporation, for the first time, the Mysore Grahakara Parishat has come forward to encourage and support two independent candidates who will be contesting in the corporation election which will be held on August 31. They will be supporting T C Tanuja who will be contesting from Ward No.1 (Hebbal) and Abhiruchi Ganesh who will be contesting from Ward 42 (K G Koppalu).

Before taking a decision to support both the candidates they were interviewed to verify their backgrounds, qualifications, achievements and contribution to the society. Both the candidates signed the citizen manifesto prepared by MGP which contains more than 11 conditions. There are more than 900 members in the MGP.

S D Saokar, President, Mysore Grahakara Parishat said, “The conditions that need to be followed by both the candidates include carrying out the wishes of the electorate of their respective wards, not indulging in corrupt practices such as receiving commissions from contractors and reporting any wrongdoing of others, ensuring any infrastructure development plan initiated for the city is consistent with the master plan of the city and meets the requirements of the future growth of Mysuru, preparing a comprehensive plan for water supply and distribution ward-wise, and ensuring that water meters are installed for every connection, making rainwater harvesting compulsory in all new residences, protecting heritage structures, stopping encroachment of parks and lakes, making engineering staff personally responsible for deviation or violation of building bylaws, improving the efficiency of Corporation by adopting best practices, ensuring that 50 percent of the revenues collected during Dasara festivities accrue to Corporation and using the same for the improvement and maintenance of the city.”

Abhiruchi Ganesh who will be contesting from Ward 42 (K G Koppalu), when asked whether he could follow all the 11 conditions put forth by MGP, he said, “All the 11 conditions which include rainwater harvesting and carrying out wishes of the electorates, can be met without any difficulty. With the support and advice from them, it will not be difficult for me to implement and make it a reality.”
