Mysuru: Last year’s Open Street Festival had irked residents of Devaraj Urs road due to usage of loudspeakers and haphazard parking arrangememts. Hoping that such obnoxious experiences do not recur, Mysuru Rakshana Vedike Youth Forum led by its president Gururaj staged protest demanding district authorities to avoid frequent open street festival at Devaraj Urs road.
“We would appreciate if open street festival is maintained as an annual festival. If they keep on conducting it frequently it will pose lot of inconvenience to the residents residing in the surrounding areas. During the event, loudspeakers are kept on for the entire duration of the event. Haphazard parking too become a cause of concern, ” said Gururaj addressing the protest which was participated by over 30 people.
Reacting to the protest, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “The events are organised only for entertainment of the people and also for benefit of the commercial establishments. We don’t have major opposition from business establishments. Still if there is stiff opposition for the event we will think over it”.
During the second open street festival which is scheduled for December 30, the authorities assured to bring down noise pollution and also make proper parking facility. Parking arrangements have been made at JK ground, said organisers.
